An entry visa, permission to remain and permission to work are different legal questions. Iran requires particularly careful checks because nationality, dual nationality, purpose and current security conditions can change what is possible.

First decide whether travel is appropriate

Current official warnings are serious, including detention risks for some foreign and dual nationals. A visa or invitation does not remove those risks or guarantee access to consular assistance.

Indian readers should not rely on old articles advertising a general visa-free holiday. India's Ministry of External Affairs has published an advisory on suspension of the visa-waiver facility for Indian nationals; confirm the current position through the relevant consulate before any commitment.

Short visits and business meetings

Ask the Iranian diplomatic mission responsible for your place of residence which category fits your passport and actual purpose. Tourism, a meeting and paid local work are not interchangeable descriptions.

Confirm the permitted stay, number of entries, arrival deadline and any itinerary or sponsor conditions. A third-party approval message is not necessarily the final visa or a guarantee of border admission.

Employment and longer business activity

An employer or proposed business must clarify the required employment authorisation and residence process with the competent authorities. Do not start work on a visitor permission while assuming a later conversion will be routine.

Company ownership is a separate matter. Our business setup guide explains the sanctions and payment checks that precede a viable investment, not an automatic investor-residence promise.

Study and family circumstances

Students should obtain formal admission and the institution's current immigration checklist before paying tuition or booking travel. Confirm whether dependants are eligible and whether any work is permitted rather than assuming a student route includes both.

Family cases can depend on nationality, marriage records and Iranian personal-status law. Dual nationals may be treated solely as Iranian by local authorities; obtain individual consular and legal advice rather than relying on a general tourism article.

Documents and questions to prepare

  • Passport and nationality details, including any second nationality.
  • A truthful explanation of the visit, intended dates and accommodation or host.
  • Employment, university or relationship records relevant to the category.
  • Required translations, attestations, insurance and financial evidence, confirmed by the authority.

Do not assume a universal six-month rule, fee or processing period covers every passport and category. Ask for the current checklist and retain the official response.

Avoid expensive shortcuts

Do not use fabricated invitations, misstate employment or pay an agent who guarantees entry. Verify refund terms and lawful payment arrangements before sharing documents.

Our country introduction explains the cultural context. This is an overview for asking the right questions, not an individual eligibility decision or a recommendation to relocate under current warnings.
